GENERAL ETHICS

This three-hour session will use vignettes and case examples to illustrate ethical and legal responsibilities of mental health providers. The format will allow participants to practice issue-spotting as it relates to ethical and legal dilemmas. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in applying proposed ethics decision-making models.

OBJECTIVES
1. Learn and practice using an ethics decision-making model.
2. Identify and understand how to resolve multiple ethical obligations through the use of various complex case examples.
3. Identify and understand how to resolve at least three legal obligations through the use of various complex case examples.

OBJECTIVES
1. State several supervisory obligations as outlined in ethics codes, laws, and regulations.
2. Identify multiple statutes that impact how supervisors guide their supervisees in clinical decision-making.
3. Use a practice guide (that can be shared with supervisees) in high-risk situations regarding duty to protect.
